Grain-Free Doughnuts

I am extremely passionate about living a clean lifestyle, and I don’t think that means you should feel deprived. Being able to enjoy the foods I love is extremely important to me (although my view of “enjoyable” foods is much different now than it used to be!). It’s impossible to maintain a lifestyle of eating a clean diet if you have a million different restrictions or aren’t able to enjoy a treat now and then. We end up going off the deep end and then just giving up altogether. Sound familiar?

Learning how to live a healthy lifestyle starts with removing the word “diet” from your vocabulary. We associate dieting with a short term goal, like losing 15 pounds. The problem is that once we meet that short term goal we slowly go right back to where we started because the “diet” usually involves extreme measures that we can’t maintain for life. If you go back and forth between eating clean and then enjoying a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts you’ll never get to your desired goals. How many times have you said, “I’ll start my diet over tomorrow”? We have ALL been there, but how many of you are tired of feeling defeated and starting over? Part of making the decision to change your lifestyle and start enjoying the benefits of a healthier more confident life requires learning how to make healthier choices. If you are desiring a doughnut, have a doughnut, but make one that will not effect your goals or how you will feel when you are done eating it.

This grain-less doughnut definitely satisfies me when I’m in need of a little treat!

Grain-less Chocolate Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 c. coconut flour
  • 3/4 c. almond flour
  • 1 1/4 t. baking soda
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1 scoop clean chocolate protein
  • 2 T. raw cacao
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 c. coconut oil
  • 1/3 c. raw honey
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened nut milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Grease your doughnut pan with coconut oil and fill with batter making sure to fill just the outside circle (keep the center free from batter). Bake for 12-15 mins. Let cool. Top with a little raw honey and toasted coconut flakes or enjoy plain. Store remaining doughnuts in an airtight container in the fridge (I think they taste more like doughnuts after being refrigerated)!

This batter can also be used to make cupcakes!
